From University to the Workplace

I am just closing in on my first week here at CARAGON, a Limerick based data solutions company, whose main product is a data management platform called CARAGON FLEX. Established in 2015 by Garron Mosley and Tony Rudden, the company is still relatively small at 10 people. Having previously worked in a big office setting doing a summer internship, a small office environment was new to me, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I am here for 8 months on my co-op placement from the University of Limerick, taking up the role of Marketing Assistant. Truthfully, coming in from a college lifestyle to the real world of work, I was both incredibly nervous and excited. I had absolutely no idea what to expect, but from the ‘get-go’ I was welcomed and put at ease.

So what am I hoping to get from my CARAGON experience? From my 8 months here, I am hoping that I can help CARAGON as much as they’ll help me. I would like to be able to link what I have learned in college and directly incorporate it into my job. The likes of marketing research and digital marketing, which I studied last semester, will go hand in hand with the tasks in the marketing department. This will include things like researching key contacts, clients and competitors for the company. The digital side of marketing will include the management of the social media platforms and company website as well as a huge input into the company’s content strategy. I will be great to get hands on experience and an abundance of knowledge that I can take back to UL and keep with me throughout my future career!

With the team I have here with me I have no doubt that my brain will be bursting. In the meantime, I look forward to the opportunities that I have been given to learn from and hope to benefit CARAGON as a whole.
